"Virtual Branch of the Russian Museum" of the Kohtla-Järve Museum of Oil Shale is a collaborative project in the framework of which a network of information and education centers were created. The main purpose of the centers is to broaden the possibilities of accessing the collections of the Russian Museum.
"Virtual Branch of the Russian Museum" of the Kohtla-Järve Museum of Oil Shale was opened in Kohtla-Järve on October 15, 2005. It was the first of its kind outside Russia.
Virtual tours for the visitors include tours to exhibitions at other museums, lectures and conferences on art, culture and history for schoolchildren, students, teachers, city organizations and foreign visitors.
Initially, the video library contained more than 50 units of Russian Museum materials from Russia and world art heritage. Throughout its existence, the video library and library have been constantly supplemented, including with material from other European museums.
